Commercial fisherman in Nova Scotia wear these knives on their suspenders or belts for safety. Even in bad condition the blade remains sharp because it is serrated. They are also cheap so if you lose one it isn’t so bad.
During The Great Recession I worked at a grocery store called Pete’s Frootique where they made you buy your uniform. The manager tried to talk me into buying 4 or 5 shirts but I only bought one and I also had to buy a Dexter Sani-Safe® produce knife because I worked in the produce section. The knife was considered part of the uniform and I had to wear it on my belt while I worked. I used it sometimes but mostly it was dress-up. One time I got in trouble for cutting up samples of cantaloupe. The manager said we couldn’t let the customers taste the cantaloupe because they were pulping and tasted horrible. I didn’t like that job at all, but I still have the knife and I like it very much.
